Spintax and Content Randomization
Spintax is a syntax for substituting random variations into text. In Postigo, this is a basic tool for making each email unique, without which cold outreach will quickly end up in spam.
Basic Syntax
Use curly braces and a vertical bar:
{Hello|Hi|Greetings} {{name}}!
For each email, Postigo randomly selects one option. For 1000 emails, you'll get three different greetings distributed approximately evenly.
Nested Variations
You can nest spintax within each other:
{I work at|My company is a} {SaaS|startup|tech} and I {wanted to|would like to} discuss...
This construction will produce 24 unique variations of the same phrase.
Where to Apply
- Email Subject — mandatory. Identical subjects for all recipients are a major trigger for spam filters.
- Greeting — Hi/Hello/Greetings/Good day
- Introductory phrase — "I noticed that...", "I saw your post about...", "I came across..."
- Closing — "Thanks", "Best", "Sincerely", "Thank you"
Merge Tags
In addition to spintax, use {{name}} — the recipient's name from the CSV import will be substituted in its place. If there is no name, "there" will be substituted.
AI-rewrite on top of Spintax
Spintax provides uniqueness with ~10-50 variations. When you need to send 5000+ emails, enable additional AI-rotation. Every N emails (100 by default), AI generates a completely new subject and rewrites the body, staying within the bounds of your basic prompt. This yields thousands of unique emails from a single template.
Common Mistakes
- Empty variations —
{|option}creates "either nothing, or option", which leads to broken sentences. - Unbalanced brackets — Postigo will display a validation error before sending.
- Too similar variations — "Hello/Hi there" is almost the same word; "Hello/Greetings/Hi" is better — different styles.
The "Random" button in the campaign editor instantly shows one of the possible variations of the final email after expanding all {a|b}.
