Smartlead and Bulko both reduce the operational work behind cold email, but they do it at different levels. Smartlead is a subscription outbound system for teams managing mailboxes, warm-up, campaigns, replies, CRM workflows, and agency clients. Bulko is a pay-as-you-go sending service with ready pre-warmed SMTP accounts already included.

Smartlead is the better fit when outbound is a permanent team process. Bulko is usually more economical when campaigns are occasional, the contact list comes from another source, and the priority is to send without building a mailbox stack.

Pricing and volume

Smartlead's Base plan starts at $39 per month and includes up to 6,000 sends and storage for 2,000 contacts. Pro starts at $94 per month for up to 90,000 sends and 30,000 stored contacts. Unlimited Smart starts at $174 per month with 150,000 sends, unlimited contact storage, CRM access, and included verified prospect emails. Private infrastructure, client workspaces, verification, and other services may be included only on certain plans or sold as add-ons.

Bulko uses one-time packs: 5,000 emails for $5, 20,000 for $15, 50,000 for $30, and 120,000 for $60. Credits do not expire, and a new account receives 500 credits without requiring a card.

The figures should not be compared as if both products contain the same software. Smartlead's subscription covers a broader outbound operating system. Bulko's packs primarily buy managed sending capacity and its campaign tools. For continuous agency work, the broader subscription can be valuable. For a quarterly campaign, non-expiring credits avoid paying during inactive months.

Infrastructure and deliverability

Smartlead is built for teams that want to operate many sending accounts. It provides warm-up pools, mailbox rotation, a master inbox, and optional products for purchasing inboxes, configuring DNS, testing placement, and using private servers. This gives an experienced team more control, but domains, mailboxes, and relevant add-ons remain part of the operating model.

Bulko takes a more managed approach. Its SMTP pool is already connected, configured, and pre-warmed. Sending is distributed within per-account limits, and unhealthy accounts can be removed from rotation. The customer can therefore start a campaign without first connecting a set of mailboxes.

Neither service can promise inbox placement. List quality, relevance, complaints, sender identity, authentication, and sending patterns still determine results. A large account pool is not permission to send indiscriminately.

Campaign and team workflow

Smartlead has the deeper operating workflow: multiple campaigns and clients, a unified inbox, CRM functions, AI agents, and infrastructure add-ons. It is the stronger option for an agency that needs client workspaces or a sales team that lives in its outreach tool every day.

Bulko focuses on a shorter path: import a list, validate addresses, write an email with merge fields or spintax, optionally create AI variations, send through the included SMTP pool, and review deliveries and classified replies. Its API covers campaigns, imports, statistics, replies, balances, and SMTP access management.

Bulko does not provide Smartlead's full agency workspace or CRM. Smartlead, conversely, can require a recurring plan and more infrastructure decisions than a small occasional sender needs.

Which should you choose?

Choose Smartlead if

  • cold outreach runs every week and is a core team process;
  • you need a master inbox, CRM workflow, AI agents, or client workspaces;
  • you want granular control over mailboxes, domains, warm-up, and private infrastructure;
  • monthly volume makes a subscription predictable and worthwhile.

Choose Bulko if

  • you want to pay only when you send;
  • you do not want to purchase, connect, and warm a mailbox fleet;
  • campaign volume is irregular and credits must remain available between launches;
  • you already use a CRM or lead source and mainly need sending and reply data;
  • you want to test 500 emails before paying.

Verdict

Smartlead is more capable as an outbound operating system; Bulko is simpler as managed, pay-as-you-go sending. Agencies and high-volume teams will usually value Smartlead's workspace and infrastructure controls. Teams that want fewer setup steps and no recurring fee should evaluate Bulko.
